Jermaine Jenas said that Reading's success in their first Premiership season has come of no surprise to him.Steve Coppell's side sit one point and one place behind us in the standings having recorded many notable results so far in the campaign in a fashion that has won considerable plaudits from the pundits.

"No, I think they’ve been a quality outfit," said JJ to the question of Reading taking the Premiership by surprise. "Not only have they come into the league and got points on the board, but they’ve done it in a good manner.

"They've played good football, at home they tough to beat and they have a lot of fighting spirit as they showed against Man United when they were 3-0 down in the FA Cup replay. It could have been six, but they were unlucky not to get a draw in the end. Reading are a tough team and I'm sure it will be an exciting game on Sunday."

JJ suspects a fair degree of Reading's progress this term is down to a continuity in terms of the squad, with only a small number of changes made from the promotion-winning group.

"Yes, and that’s fair play to the manager," added the midfielder. "A lot of managers come into the league, obviously it’s a big step up but sometimes their initial move is to go out and buy this player, or that player and it can unsettle the team. So fair play to Steve Coppell, I think he’s done a fantastic job, he’s kept faith with the players that got him there. That is his foundation anyway and he's added a little bit of extra quality here and there just to help them."

It was a far from memorable first Premiership trip to Reading back in November when we fell to a 3-1 defeat, a day JJ clearly remembers well.

"I was there and, to be honest with you, we started off really brightly and I thought it would be one of those games we were going to win quite comfortably. We went a goal ahead but we then conceded two sloppy goals taking us into half-time and then we were constantly chasing the game and were always going to get caught - it was one of those days to forget.

"We’ve had four league wins in a row now and the run has put us in a good position. Things have been going great, now we’ve just got to maintain it.
