No excuses and we go again - Eric
14 December 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Eric Dier gave an honest assessment from the dressing room after Sunday’s 2-1 loss against Newcastle.
The midfielder headed us into a deserved lead after a dominant first half display at the Lane but we couldn’t find a key second goal as Rob Elliot stood firm in the Magpies' goal.
The tide started to turn later in the second half, Aleksandar Mitrovic levelled and Ayoze Perez hit us with a late, late winner in the third minute of added time.
It was a knockout blow and our first defeat in the Premier League since the opening day of the season, a run of 14 matches unbeaten.
“In the first half we played very well and we could have been two or three up, their goalkeeper made a lot of good saves,” said Eric.
“In the second half we know we’ve got to come out with the same intensity and try to kill the game and we haven’t done that.

“There are no excuses. We knew they would come here and play that way - most teams do. They made it hard for us but we have to break them down.
“Everyone is disappointed, it’s normal. It hurts everyone. We want to win more than anyone.
“We’re disappointed but we have to go again now, there is no point sitting around sulking.
“We need to learn from it and we have a (clear) week now where we can work and try to put it right next weekend, that’s what we have to do.”
