No bill for Bill

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Former manager Bill Nicholson was astounded to read a claim in a national newspaper that he is charged to park his car at White Hart Lane.

Bill, a regular at home games, is always welcomed in all quarters of the ground where his presence is considered a privilege and is actively encouraged.

He normally watches games together with many of his former players from prestige seats in our East Stand but has an open invitation to the Board Room and Director’s Box.

So the claim that he is charged £5 to park is simply not true.

“I can’t understand why they should write that. My welcome could not be warmer and I am certainly not charged to park the car or for anything else.”

Bill, our Club President, recently enjoyed a testimonial at the Lane where Spurs fans paid tribute to him by turning out in numbers. A crowd of 35,877 watched the game with Fiorentina.

“Everybody at Tottenham loves Bill and he has access to any part of the ground that he wants. Obviously he does not even need a pass because his is the most recognisable face at the Lane and he is welcome anywhere and everywhere,” says Spurs spokesman John Fennelly.

“I spoke to Bill this morning and he is as disappointed as we all are at this suggestion. He knows that he has a reserved space in the main car park at the stadium but finds it easier to park behind the East Stand.

“Obviously that is his choice and we respect it but there is absolutely no suggestion of a charge.”
