The playmaker scored both goals as his side won 2-1 in Tel Aviv to top Group F.

Niko was joined by Spurs team-mates Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric in the line-up while goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa was an unused substitute.

Niko struck twice in the space of five minutes towards the end of the first half.

The first came via the penalty spot while Luka played him in for the second, a curler into the bottom corner.

Meanwhile, Sebastien Bassong and Benoit Assou-Ekotto both started as Cameroon were held to a surprise 1-1 draw at home by DR Congo in African Cup of Nations qualfying on Saturday.

They fell behind to a strike from West Ham's Herita Ilunga after 37 minutes and had to rely on an own goal from Miala Nkulukutu 10 minutes after the break to rescue a point.

Sebastien played the full 90 minutes, Benoit was substituted after 70.
