Next stop semis for Patsy

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Pat Holland predicted his under-18 side would face a tough examination against Watford in the last eight of the FA Youth Cup - and the boys passed with flying colours at Vicarage Road.

A goal in the first minute from Charlie Daniels set them on their way, with the advantage being doubled on 24 minutes when Andy Barcham - provider of the opener - steered the ball past home keeper Reece Kirk, sparking joy among the large Spurs contingent in attendance.

Coach Pat suspected all along Watford would provide a tricky obstacle to clear on route to the semi-finals, bearing in mind that the Hornets had enjoyed two league victories over us this season and defeated holders Middlesbrough in the last round of this competition.

"Yes, we had quite a few chats with the kids about it as we had Watford watched quite a few times, had two or three reports on them and a video," he reflected afterwards. "In the end it was basically, 'look, you've seen enough, heard enough - now what are you made of?'.

"They responded terrifically. The first goal was a surprise to me, I was talking to Jimmy (Neighbour), swung round and, all of a sudden, the ball was in the net. It was a great start, a well taken goal and a good decision by Andy who just rolled it nicely in for Charlie.

"Then we got the second one from a similar situation, a ball over the top with Andy getting in with a great finish. It provided a cushion and then you think calm it down a bit - which is not an easy one to do with kids. We really wanted to get through to half-time with that clean sheet, which we did.

"It gave us a chance to talk to the kids and settle them down a little bit."

The boys now face Ipswich Town over two legs in the semi-finals, with the first leg set to take place at Portman Road. The other semi-final will be between Southampton and the winner of Derby County v Wolverhampton Wanderers.
