Newsletter exclusive - Mauricio on Harry

Thu 21 August 2014, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino spoke of the importance of the special bond Harry Kane feels with the club he joined as a schoolboy after the young striker signed a new deal to commit his future to Spurs until 2019.

Born locally in Walthamstow, Harry progressed through our Academy ranks to initially sign professional terms in 2010.

He made his debut in the Europa League a year later and after successful loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester, made his breakthrough in the second half of last season.

Harry went on to make 19 appearances in all competitions and scored in three-successive Premier League matches in April.

In-form again in pre-season, the 21-year-old has now been rewarded with a new deal – much to Mauricio’s delight.

“We are very happy with Harry,” said Mauricio. “He’s an unbelievable player and a great guy. We’re happy and the news is important for Tottenham Hotspur and for him.

“It’s important because he’s a player who feels a bond with the club.

“He’s very strong mentally, has skill in front of the goal, scores goals, works hard and he has a lot of skill. He deserves this new contract.”
