Newcastle U18s vs Spurs - John's preview

25 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

John McDermott expects a tough test as our Under-18s embark on a long trip to face Newcastle United on Saturday.

The lads are travelling to the north-east today (Friday) ahead of an 11am kick-off in the morning.

It marks the beginning of a gruelling week, which sees the lads visit Aston Villa on Wednesday before returning home to host Sunderland next Saturday.

John, our Academy Manager, has emphasised the importance of being in the right frame of mind ahead of what he expects will be a difficult game at Newcastle tomorrow.

“We trained early today, and we get on the coach and head north to Newcastle today,” he said.

“It’s a long trip but it’s important that the boys are well prepared and motivated for the game tomorrow.

“We go up in good spirits and it’s the first of three games in eight days. We play Newcastle, Aston Villa and then Sunderland next week, so it’s a busy week.

“But it will be good to see Dave Watson and Joe Joyce up at Newcastle; two people who have been working in youth development successfully for a long time.

“They’re always difficult games at Newcastle, so I’m sure both teams will be looking to put on a good performance and may the best team win.”
