Newcastle U18s 1-2 Spurs - John's reaction
28 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
John McDermott said our Under-18s were deserved winners at Newcastle United at the weekend.
Shayon Harrison followed up on his first half opener with the winning goal seven minutes from time, after Newcastle’s Jonathyn Quinn had levelled just before the interval.
Academy Manager John said that, while he was proud of the lads’ performance in our 2-1 win, he felt we could have added further to our tally as the game progressed.
“The game started off quite slowly but then later in the first half we showed some touches of quality,” he said.
“Shayon Harrison provided a very clinical finish from 12 yards, after that we started to play with a bit more fluidity and style and could maybe have scored some more goals.
“It was disappointing then to concede just before half-time, but in the second half Emmanuel Sonupe made a good impact on the right hand side as a substitute and we should maybe have finished from some of the chances he created.
“Their keeper was coming up at the end and if I was being honest we should possibly have put more daylight between the teams when we had the opportunity.
“But it’s a long old hike to up to Newcastle and I think we were deserved winners.”
