Newcastle 0-4 Spurs - Tim's praise for trio

Fri 14 February 2014, 09:39|Tottenham Hotspur

Tim Sherwood described Younes Kaboul’s return as ‘massive’ and reserved special praise for Nacer Chadli and Hugo Lloris after our 4-0 win at Newcastle.

Central defender Younes started only his second match in the Premier League since our last visit to St James’ Park – August, 2012 – and looked at his dominant best alongside Jan Vertonghen.

“Younes’ return was massive for us,” said Head Coach Tim. “Michael Dawson hasn’t done anything wrong, it was a tactical switch. Michael’s been brilliant.

“Younes came in and looked like he’d never been away. We’re only going with three centre-halves at the moment because Vlad has an injury, so we’ll need every one of them.”

Nacer , meanwhile, entered the fray off the bench and delivered the moment of the night with a magnificent fourth goal, a 25-yard curler into the top corner, his first goal in the Premier League.

“We all know what Nacer can do,” added Tim. “It’s all about a settling in period. I played myself, so I know what it’s like to settle at a new club, let alone in a new country.

“We know he possesses that ability, he wouldn’t play for the Belgian national team if he didn’t. We see him do it every day in training. Hopefully that will give him a massive lift.

“Credit to Newcastle, they dug in and had a few chances. Hugo’s the best though and he made crucial saves at the right times and made it comfortable for us at the end.”
