Newcastle 0-4 Spurs - Nabil's pride

14 February 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

Nabil Bentaleb said he enjoyed working as part of a new-look midfield unit in Wednesday’s win at Newcastle.

The tough-tackling 19-year-old teamed up centrally with Paulinho and Etienne Capoue for the first time at St James’ Park, with the trio all playing key roles as we strode to a fine 4-0 victory.

And after the match, Nabil claimed he relished being part of that engine room clan as we made it seven away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

“It worked well with Capoue as a holding player and myself and Pauli as eights. I really enjoyed it,” the youngster said.

“I’m happy to be involved, proud to be in the team and working hard to make sure my performances are good enough to stay in.”

Nabil played an impressive part in the build-up to Emmanuel Adebayor’s first half opener on Wednesday – and he spoke afterwards about how taking the lead was vitally important.

“It’s always good to go ahead, that’s important in away games,” he added. “We kept going after that.

“From the beginning, we said we were going there to put pressure on them and get three points, not just sit back.

“Not many teams go to Newcastle and win 4-0, so that was a big win for us. We have to keep it going.”
