Naybet expects Real thing

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Noureddine Naybet has warned his team-mates to expect more from Real Sociedad than they've showed so far in the Peace Cup when we meet on Thursday.

We face the Spanish outfit in our final group game in Ulsan, South Korea, knowing victory will take us into Sunday's final in Seoul.

Real Sociedad lost their opening game of the tournament in South Korea against Sundowns before a 0-0 draw against Boca Juniors.

Noureddine knows the Basque side well from his time in La Liga with Deportivo La Coruna.

"I remember in the 2002-03 season when I was at Deportivo that Real Sociedad had a very good team and did well in the Spanish championship," said Noureddine, who is continuing his pre-season preparations at Spurs Lodge after internationals for Morocco in June.

"They finished second that season and we finished third.

"The year after they played in the Champions League and did very well but since then they haven’t qualified for Europe and have dropped off a bit in my opinion.

"They've made a lot of changes with young players coming through and changed their coach.

"When you play in the Spanish championship it is a much more technical, attacking game. They are a Basque team who play with a different mentality. Lot of young players are coming through and every year two or three young players progress into their first team.

"In the two games I have seen them play I don’t think they have played to their potential but they have two good strikers in Darko Kovacevic and Turkish international Nihat who could cause us problems."

Noureddine has kept a close eye on our progress in South Korea. "We played well in the first half against Boca Juniors and it was a good start for us in our opening game.

"Did very well for a period against Sundowns but then we played quite deep for the final 20 minutes and I don’t know whether that was a tactical decision because we were winning comfortably or whether that had something to do with the heat and humidity.

"It is a good pre-season tournament and if we can win it would be fantastic for the mentality of the team and the confidence."
