Nacer's goal

Nacer Chadli has targeted more goals after acquiring a taste for scoring in his first season at the Club.

The versatile 24-year-old, in Belgium’s squad for the World Cup, memorably bagged a quickfire double as we went close to pulling off an unlikely comeback at Benfica in the Europa League back in March.

He also curled home a stunner in our 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle United the previous month – a contender in our Goal of the Season poll eventually won by Gylfi Sigurdsson – with additional strikes against Aston Villa and Anji Makhachkala in the Capital One Cup and Europa League to his name.

And having scored for Belgium in last week’s 5-1 World Cup warm-up win over Luxembourg, our attacking midfielder believes there’s more to come from him in front of goal.

“It’s always good to score goals for this Club,” he said. “It makes me proud and other people are proud of you if you score goals. It also helps the team to win games.

“My goals were among my personal highlights of my first season at Spurs as well as my home debut in the friendly against Espanyol last summer. To put the Tottenham shirt on for the first time at White Hart Lane was a good feeling.”

Looking at his first season at Spurs in the rear view mirror, Nacer admitted he’s under no illusions about the competitive nature of the top flight.

“It’s what I expected,” he said of the Premier League. “There’s obviously a lot of top players and it’s a top competition so it’s good to test myself against some of the other players in the league.

“I’m very happy and I’ve learned a lot of things. To play in the Premier League was always a dream for me and I think next season will be better for sure.”
