Nabil Bentaleb has spoken of his pride at being named in Algeria’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.

Our teenage midfielder has rocketed into the spotlight since stepping up from our Development Squad to make his senior Spurs debut last December – and now has a dream ticket to the most prestigious tournament in world football in Brazil.

“It’s going to be amazing for me,” beamed Nabil, who went on as a substitute in Algeria’s friendly win against Armenia at the weekend after making his senior international bow against Slovenia back in March.

“At the beginning of the season I was not expecting to play at the World Cup, I was looking to be at home watching it!”

Nabil finished the season with 20 senior appearances under his belt in all competitions, with that experience of playing in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup seemingly standing him in good stead for Algeria’s challenge over the next few weeks.

“I think it’s been a very good season for me,” added the 19-year-old, who was confirmed in Algeria’s final travelling party on Monday after their initial 30-man provisional squad was trimmed back. “It’s my first season playing at the highest level and I think I did pretty well to get a chance to be in the World Cup. It’s going to be an amazing experience.”
