Clive Allen says it was 'a privilege' to play with Bryan Robson in his pomp as England skipper. We come up against one of the best players of the modern era in his role as manager of his first club, West Brom, in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Robson was capped 90 times by England and led his country in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.
After making his name at West Brom, he moved to Manchester United for a then huge £1.5million fee in 1981. In 13 years at Old Trafford he won the FA Cup three times and finally the title in 1992-3.
Now 48, Robson joined the Baggies in November and has started to make an impact at The Hawthorns with his side beaten just once in their last six games.
Development coach Clive, who will meet Robson as part of our matchday team, said: "He captained the England side that I played in.
"He led by example every time he played for his country and he was a player who had everything - the desire in how he played the game, the ability and I think I was privileged to play with him.
"He's taken all that into his management career. People might say he hasn't been as successful as he was as a player but he's at a club now that he holds very close to his heart heaving started his career there and he'll be determined to succeed.
"We're just seeing now West Brom reap the benefits of his experience."
