'My heart sunk'

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle admitted he couldn't get Les Ferdinand off the pitch quick enough after his bust-up with Leicester's Robbie Savage on Saturday.

And the boss said his 'heart sunk' as referee Andy D'Urso called the protagonists over as tempers flared in the last 10 minutes of our 2-1 Premiership victory.

The striker is a yellow card away from a one-match ban and would have missed the Worthington Cup Final if Mr D'Urso had produced it on Saturday.

In fairness, Les looked like the innocent party as Savage paved the way for two or three hefty challenges.

"I couldn't get him off quick enough," Glenn revealed. "If I could have jumped on his back before the referee got there I would have ridden him off down the tunnel!

"My heart sank when the ref went over to him, thought it might be disappointing. Les knows it was the right decision to come off now but at the time he was all over the place."

Foxes certainly came into their own after the fracas. Trailing 2-1 having just pulled a goal back, they threw men forward and only a magnificent save from Neil Sullivan denied Callum Davidson at the death.

The final 15 minutes were a complete contrast to the rest of the game which had been somewhat subdued and we were in control of, 2-0 up, thanks to Darren Anderton and Simon Davies.

"It was a hard game in the end," Glenn added. "Let's face it, we were in control and at 2-0, Steffen Iversen hit the bar and if that goes in, it's game over and we wouldn't have had that flurry in the end.

"When they got the free-kick, I didn't think it was a free-kick but the referee gave it, he took it well and all of a sudden the game changed.

"We're suddenly on the back foot, they throw Elliott up, throw bodies forward and once it's 2-1 you're sitting uncomfortably on the edge of your seat.

"But the lads battled hard, put their heads in, blocked and Sully came up with a wonderful save late on.

"I would really have been upset if we'd have only ended up with a point after controlling the game."
