My First Spurs Christmas - Serge Aurier

We caught up with this year’s new signings to find out about their plans for the festive period and how they’ve celebrated in the past. The week-long series continues today with right-back Serge Aurier, who joined us from Paris Saint-Germain this summer...

Previous clubs: Lens, Toulouse, Paris Saint-Germain.

What will you do on Christmas Day? 
It’s always a big party at this time of year because it’s my birthday on December 24. My family will travel from Paris to London to see me on that day and then on December 25 I will be training with the team for the match on December 26 against Southampton.

How does this differ from past Christmases for you? 
For me it’s a big difference because normally at this time of year it’s a holiday in other countries like France, where I have spent most of my life. Now I have to train and play games but I’m happy about this – it’s something special in England to play and enjoy football.

What is traditional at Christmas in Ivory Coast? 
It’s a party! They give presents to everyone and have dinner together, like here in England. They have all kinds of dishes derived from rice, pasta and potatoes – there is not one specific traditional meal at this time of year.

What is your favourite festive meal? 
A popular Ivorian food called attiéké, which is like couscous. I like to have it with fish.

What do you wish for at Christmas? 
Three points from the game against Southampton on December 26 and then to have a great second half of the season.

What was your most memorable gift as a child? 
My first toy car. It was a small radio-controlled one and I used to follow it around all over the place!
