My First Spurs Christmas - Fernando Llorente
18 December 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
We caught up with this year’s new signings to find out about their plans for the festive period and how they’ve celebrated in the past. We get the week-long series underway today with striker Fernando Llorente, who arrived this year from Swansea City…
Previous clubs: Athletic Bilbao, Juventus, Sevilla, Swansea City.
What will you do on Christmas Day?
After training, I will be at home with my family but with my mind on the next day’s game against Southampton!
How does this differ from past Christmases for you?
In Spain, you never play at this time of year because La Liga stops and you have maybe eight days of holiday. During these days, I would stay at home with my family in Rincón de Soto in La Rioja and enjoy Christmas. When I was a child, on December 24 we would go into town to the house of my uncle and receive money, chocolate or other gifts. When I went away to Bilbao it was different but I always remember this.
What is traditional at Christmas in Spain?
On December 24 in the night time we exchange gifts. It is traditional to eat cordero asado (roast lamb) or maybe fish.
What is your favourite festive meal?
Normally in my family we eat seafood – gambas (shrimp) and langostinos (lobster).
What do you wish for at Christmas?
For me, the best thing this Christmas will be to win all the games and get back into the top places in the league – and of course to score some more goals! This is the thing, I need to score for my confidence and hopefully some more will arrive in this period.
What was your most memorable gift as a child?
I loved the football! I got a ball when I was four or five years old. Also one year I received roller skates.
Look out for tomorrow’s edition of ‘My First Spurs Christmas’ with centre-half Davinson Sanchez.
