Mousa's magical, meaningful moment!

05 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Mousa Dembele fired in his third goal in as many games against Anderlecht and declared: “That topped the lot!”

The Belgian international stepped off the bench to win Thursday evening’s Europa League match at White Hart Lane, rifling an unstoppable right-footed shot into the top corner with three minutes of normal time remaining.

The strike completed a 2-1 victory for us on the night, sending us to the top of Group J having started the day out of the qualification places in third on head-to-head rules, and followed on from the midfielder’s goals against Bournemouth and Aston Villa in our two most recent Premier League fixtures.

Mousa admitted his effort against Anderlecht was his favourite of his recent run – not only because of its spectacular nature, but also due to its meaning to our overall bid to qualify for the Europa League’s knockout stages later in the season.

“That was the best goal of the lot and I'm very happy with it!” he beamed. “It was a very important goal which makes it even more special – a good goal and one that got us three important points, which is great.

"We want to go far in this competition and so this result is very important for us. This is a good step tonight and a very good three points.”

Following the game, all focus quickly turned towards Sunday’s North London derby against Arsenal in the Premier League. Mousa confirmed he and his playing colleagues are in confident mood going into the contest at the Emirates, following back-to-back home wins against Villa and Anderlecht this week.

“The team is playing well and, for me, I'm scoring a lot, so I'm very happy about that,” he added.

“Overall I'm very happy with the win tonight and we now need to take that on and continue our good form in the Premier League.

"Now this game is finished, Arsenal is immediately our main focus. From tonight we will start our preparations and start thinking about Sunday, which is another very important match.”
