Mousa's 'beautiful' mission

05 April 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Mousa Dembele says the players want to reward our fans for their support by continuing to produce an exciting, attacking brand of football.

The Belgian international midfielder was as strong as ever in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool and was once again buoyed by the sound of his name being sung aloud in the away end at Anfield.

Like his playing colleagues, Mousa admitted he was disappointed to only come away from Merseyside with a share of the spoils in the end but he was nevertheless keen to underline how important our fans’ contribution continues to be as we prepare for our final six games of the season.

“I’m very happy – the fans are supporting the team a lot and me personally as well and that gives me a lot of confidence. We just want to give something beautiful back,” said the 28-year-old.

“The team is playing well, the supporters are behind us and there is a positive vibe there.

“We’re very disappointed with the draw, though. Of course, we did well, Liverpool did well too but we had good chances in the second half. We were 1-0 down but at the end we hoped for the win and we’re disappointed, to be honest.

“You can see the mentality has changed. When we scored we wanted the ball back as soon as possible and then we created more chances and we were close to winning the game, that’s why we’re disappointed.

“We need to concentrate on the next game now. Nothing is over and we need to continue.”

Mousa also reiterated a message he’s put across throughout the season in which he says his own form is partly down to the way the whole group is functioning.

“You can see the players we have and everyone is working so hard,” he added. “It’s just so much easier for me to play my game and I’m happy to play in this team.

“Now we look ahead to the next game – you can see Liverpool had a lot of respect for us, Manchester United will have as well and we have to play our football, then we know we can beat any team.”
