Mousa hails game-changer Christian

Mousa Dembele took his hat off to Christian Eriksen for his brace against Southampton – and lauded the way the Dane has a knack of turning games in the blink of an eye.

Christian snaffled up a 31st minute opportunity to reduce the arrears after we went 2-0 down against the Saints on Sunday, before converting Roberto Soldado’s cross just 46 seconds into the second half to draw us back level.

Gylfi Sigurdsson completed our comeback in stoppage time but Mousa, who returned to action against the Saints after four games out with a hamstring problem, was full of admiration for Christian after the game.

It was, after all, not the first time the Dane has popped up to hit the target at an opportune moment. His free kick gave us hope in the recent Europa League round of 16 first leg against Benfica, while he also kick-started our comeback against FC Dnipro in the previous round.

“Christian is doing very well,” said Mousa, post-match at the Lane. “He has a good shot on him and you never know what position you’re in because he can always score a goal. That’s a very positive thing.”

Mousa made way for match winner Gylfi at the break, but our Belgian international midfielder was still able to revel in the glory of such a dramatic comeback.

“We played very well in the end,” he added. “We started a bit sloppy and we conceded the two goals which was obviously not what we wanted.

“But you always have to believe that you can do it. We knew it was not going to be easy but it helped that in the first half we’d scored one goal already.

“In the second half we played very well, we were very aggressive and very motivated so it was a good win and I’m happy for everyone.”
