MLS 15 - proudly supporting Special Olympics in Denver

28 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

As part of our continued international work with Special Olympics, our Global Coaching team delivered a unique coaching clinic in partnership with Major League Soccer (MLS) for young people with learning disabilities from across the United States.

The Club became a Global Partner of Special Olympics in 2009, and since then the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been successfully delivering joint projects to improve sporting opportunities for athletes with learning disabilities both at home and abroad.

Throughout the week, MLS will be working with Special Olympics around Wednesday’s All-Star match and in conjunction with the Global Games currently happening in Los Angeles, California.

Participants in Monday’s clinic, wearing the shirts of MLS teams from the cities from which they hail, had the chance of a special team photo with our players prior to our afternoon training session at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Our work follows on from clinics run in partnership with Special Olympics on tours such as in Seattle last summer and Kuala Lumpur and Sydney earlier this year.

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has also helped deliver coach education projects in India and Singapore, working in partnership with Special Olympics Bharat and Special Olympics Asia-Pacific respectively.

On a local level, the Foundation has worked with Special Olympics Great Britain to deliver Unified Football – integrating players with and without learning disabilities – within the London Boroughs of Haringey and Enfield.
