MLS 15 - Mauricio and lads face the media
28 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
As excitement continues to build here in Denver ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with the MLS All-Stars, Mauricio Pochettino, Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Nabil Bentaleb spoke to the world’s media at the official pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.
Head Coach Mauricio kicked off proceedings by speaking of his and the team’s pride at being invited to play in the high-profile fixture, before players Harry, Kyle and Nabil answered a range of questions from broadcasters and journalists about the match.
“We are really happy to be here and it’s a big honour for us to participate in this game. It’s a great occasion to share with our fans and it will be a fantastic moment for us,” confirmed Mauricio, who was joined on stage by Assistant Head Coach Jesus Perez.
Striker Harry said the match comes at an ideal time for the squad as we continue our preparations for the start of the new Premier League campaign.
“It’s going to be a tough game but that’s what we want,” he declared. “Obviously it’s not long now until the start of the season and we need to be testing ourselves to see how fit we are and to see what we need to work on.”
Right-back Kyle confirmed he’s expecting a difficult battle with former team-mate and the All-Stars’ in-form front man Clint Dempsey at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this week.
“We can see the talent that they’ve got up front,” he said. “Having played with Clint at Tottenham, I’ve seen his capabilities and what he can do on the ball – he’s very good and a very dangerous attacker. We’re going to have to be on our game, it’s going to be a good test and it’s one that we’re looking forward to.”
Midfielder Nabil, meanwhile, confirmed he can’t wait to run out against some of the top players the MLS has to offer, having enjoyed watching a number of games from the league on television in recent months.
“I’ve got to know more about the MLS through the television,” he said. “Personally, I watch a lot of football at home, I’ve had a chance to see a few MLS games and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen. It’s going to be a big test for us and we’re looking forward to the game.”
MLS All-Stars players Dempsey and Kaka then took to the stage with Coach Pablo Mastroeni – also the boss of Colorado Rapids – for the second part of the press conference, before both groups of players and coaches posed with match scarves for a photocall.
Our players and staff then headed off to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for the afternoon training session.
We’ll be taking part in Open Training inside the stadium on Tuesday – watch out for coverage on Twitter @SpursOfficial, here on tottenhamhotspur.com and via Spurs TV.
