MLB All-Stars love the Lane!

Three Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Stars stood pitchside at the Lane on Sunday – and loved every second of it.

Daniel Murphy declared his love of Spurs last year and having watched two matches at the Lane last October, returned again on the conclusion of the MLB season - and brought two team-mates with him.

Three-time MLB All-Star and former Yankee Curtis Granderson and pitcher Matt Harvey, an All-Star in 2011 but injured throughout 2014, joined Daniel for our Premier League clash against Newcastle.

Like Daniel last year, Curtis and Matt were blown away by the close proximity of the fans to the action and the atmosphere in the stadium.

“It’s amazing to be here,” said Curtis, All-Star in 2009, 2011 and 2012. “One of the cool things about coming to a stadium like this is that you get to see the tradition.

“The stadium is over 100 years old and the fans are so close to the pitch.

“We get the chance to be part of that and as baseball players we love to be in environments where the fans are right on top of us, so it’s really exciting.

“I’ve got the goosebumps! You see the excitement on the fans’ faces and that’s what it’s all about.”

Matt added: “This is pretty incredible. It’s my first time here so getting to see the pitch so close and the guys warming-up it’s exciting, a lot of fun.”

Daniel enjoyed a fine 2014 campaign, capped with his first All-Star selection.

Mets finished third with a .488 winning average in the MLB’s National League East Division, just outside the play-offs and there was one destination on Daniel’s mind on the conclusion of the 162-match regular season.

“I had to come to the Lane and it’s great to be back, really exciting to be here pitchside,” he said, before giving his view on Mets’ 2014 campaign.

“We’re heading in the right direction. We’ll get Matt Harvey back soon, one of the best pitchers in baseball, Curtis Granderson is here, a three-time All Star, so we’re heading in the right direction and really excited about 2015. I was fortunate to play in an All Star Game as well, a great experience and I really enjoyed it.”
