Mixed feelings for Steffen

19 November 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Steffen Freund will have divided loyalties when England take on Germany at Wembley tonight.

Without question, our Assistant Head Coach wants Germany to win - hardly surprising after winning 21 caps and representing his country at two major tournaments.

At the same time, Steffen would love to see Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend perform well for England!

“I will support the German team - I am German, after all - but I will be happy if England play well, especially our players!” said Steffen.

“It would be great for the club if we saw Kyle and Andros play well together down the right. They have played really well so far this season. Andros is in fantastic form, Kyle is a great right-back and don’t forget Jermain Defoe, he will always score goals.”

Steffen expects England to push the Germans all the way.

“It’s not the strongest German side, there are a few players not involved, a few players injured, but Germany still has a very strong squad with a lot of young players,” he added.

“It will be a difficult game for Germany, but this is always a special game. There is nothing better than playing England at Wembley.”
