Mixed emotions

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle went through the full range of emotions after our opening day Premiership draw at Everton on Saturday.

The boss saw his side go 1-0 down, lose Stephen Carr through injury, battle back to level and then take the lead before Everton levelled with five minutes left.

"It was mixed emotions, yes," admitted Glenn. "It was a tough first half for us but we dug in deep and I felt we weathered to storm but they scored at just the right time for them.

"So in the second half we had to get the ball down and start passing. That's what we asked the boys to do.

"I didn't feel the game was dead. I felt we contained them quite well without giving away too many chances in the first half and it was up to us to turn the game around and I think we did."

Mark Pemrbridge put the Toffees 1-0 up, Matthew Etherington's fine strike and Les Ferdinand's low curler turned the game around before Tomasz Radzinski's late leveller.

It was Les's first touch and Glenn was pleased to have the striker back after he'd completed just an hour's football in pre-season following his fractured wrist in March. The final pin was removed 10 days ago and, until last week, he had been unable to play matches.

Asked if it was an inspired substitution, Glenn responded: "You make decisions and sometimes they come off, sometimes they don't.

"I was pleased Les was available to have a spell in the game. He's had a screw in his wrist that has meat he's not been able to play matches.

"He's trained hard but there's a difference between running hard and keeping fitness levels like that and match shaprness.

"He's done well to get 20 minutes out there and it paid dividends. He showed what he can do when he's fresh - it's just a pity it wasn't the winner."
