Milos ready to kick on after Under-20 World Cup success

26 June 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

With a FIFA Under-20 World Cup winner’s medal around his neck, Milos Veljkovic is keen to build on his international achievements at club level in 2015-16.

Ever-present for Serbia Under-20s as they lifted their first ever World Cup title in New Zealand this month, the 19-year-old defender says tasting glory with his national team has helped him to move on from a frustrating, injury-hit season on the domestic scene.

With regular football hard to come by during a late 2014 loan spell at Middlesbrough, he linked up with Charlton Athletic back in January – but a shoulder injury sustained in only his third appearance for the Addicks ruled him out for a number of weeks.

Now, having marked his returned to action in winning style on the world stage, the youngster is determined to carry over the momentum gained from Serbia’s triumph into the new campaign.

“It’s been an unbelievable few weeks with Serbia, especially after coming back from injury – it couldn’t be better,” beamed Milos, who has made three first team appearances for us to date.

“Winning the Under-20 World Cup has been massive for me because last season I was a bit unlucky with not playing as much as I would have liked and then getting injured at Charlton.

“That was frustrating but now, to come back and win the Under-20 World Cup has been amazing and hopefully I can really kick on at club level in 2015-16.

“I want to keep going, keep working hard and hopefully I’ll get my rewards. My ultimate goal is to play more games for Tottenham’s first team but I’ll have to prove myself every day if I’m to do it.”
