Grant Hall helped Birmingham City reach the second round of the Capital One Cup with a 3-1 victory over Cambridge United on Tuesday night.

Our on-loan defender played the full match, the Blues getting the job done in extra time after the 90 minutes ended with the scores level at 1-1.

Grant was one of a trio of our loanees in action during a busy programme of first round matches, with Kenny McEvoy playing 90 minutes for Peterborough United in their 1-0 defeat at Portsmouth and Shaq Coulthirst similarly ever-present for Southend United in their 2-1 home reverse against Walsall.

Elsewhere, Grant Ward suffered US Open Cup agony with Chicago Fire on Wednesday night. The Fire slipped to a 6-0 defeat against MLS rivals Seattle Sounders in the semi-finals, Grant starting the game in midfield before being withdrawn on 63 minutes.
