Mido checks in
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Egyptian striker Mido checked into Spurs Lodge on Friday morning following the completion of his loan switch from Roma. The 21-year-old underwent a medical late last night and finalised the formalities of his 18-month move before joining in with training.
The 2002 African Player of the Year insists he is determined to make his mark as a Spurs player and says he followed his heart in making the decision to play his football at White Hart Lane.
"My first impression is that it is a very organised club, very good management and I am happy to be here," said Mido. "I am happy because it was my decision to come here, I had some options, but I had a good feeling about Spurs and I promise the fans that I will work hard and always do my best to be in good form.
"I followed my heart, my heart told me this is a good place, the right place to be and when I spoke with the coach he told me it will be a good place for me to work. That is why I chose to come here - when you choose something with your heart it is always the best way."
Martin Jol and Frank Arnesen were well aware of Mido's talents from his spell in Holland with Ajax, where he won the Dutch League, Cup and Super Cup in 2002, but he reasons that proving himself in the here and now is what matters.
"It is good that the trainer knows you from before, but I am not depending on that. They are expecting a lot of me here and I will have to do a lot work to reach this and make myself proud."
It is never an easy question for players to answer, but Mido did his best when asked what type of player fans can expect to see in action when he pulls on the Spurs shirt.
"First of all I have a fighting mentality and I battle for my team. As a player I am a tall striker, a box striker and I've scored a good number of goals in my career. I hope I can add a lot of goals for Tottenham as this is my target.
"I want to play well with my teammates, have a lot of success and score goals."
Sporting Director Frank Arnesen added that Mido has much experience for a young player, one who was coveted by a number of clubs.
"Everybody knows we were looking for a young striker to fit into our plans and fortunately he has agreed to come to Tottenham for 18 months," said Frank. "Many clubs like him and this is normal, he is big lad, left footed and has a lot of experience even though he is only 21.
"He is a very interesting player and I look forward to having him here at Tottenham.
"He has had some problems in the past but he is determined to come here and do good things. I am sure he will do well here with us, for the fans he will be a very good player to watch."
