Midfield strong - Eric

Eric Dier believes teams will find it harder to break us down this season thanks to an abundance of talent in central midfield.
The England Under-21 international has been ever-present for us since the beginning of the campaign in a holding role just in front of the back four.
With last term’s regular midfield pairing of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason both having missed game time through injury, he’s taken ownership of the role in admirable fashion.
And he says he’s happy to be part of a combined effort, along with the likes of Ryan, Nabil, Dele Alli, Tom Carroll and Harry Winks, to provide additional protection to our back four in a bid to cut down on the number of goals conceded.
“We look more solid now,” said the 21-year-old, who featured at centre-half and right-back during his debut season at the club last year.
“It feels like we can protect our goal a lot better than we’ve done previously, so that’s very positive.
“Ryan and Nabil are great players but so is Dele, who I’ve been playing alongside lately. He’s got a very bright future ahead of him and I think we complement each other very well because I can look after his back and he can push on and go forward.
“I don’t think it’s down to one or two people, though – it’s down to the whole team and there is a really strong mentality about us.
“We’re a strong group, everyone is fighting and putting their bodies on the line, blocking shots and making tackles and that makes a big difference.”
