Michael's the main man

Michael Dawson was awestruck as he received the One Hotspur Members' Player of the Season' shield.

Not only was our centre-half proud to be the choice of our supporters - he was also hugely impressed by the names that have gone before him.

'Daws' took time out to look at a line-up of stars that included Gary Mabbutt, Paul Gascoigne, Jurgen Klinsmann, Gary Lineker, Chris Waddle, Darren Anderton, Teddy Sheringham, David Ginola, Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon and Dimitar Berbatov.

But while he is typically humble enough to say that he doesn't deserve to be in that company, every Spurs fan knows that he most certainly does.

"Just look at some of the names on here," said a delighted Michael. "I'm so proud to be on there alongside them because it's a real line-up of some of the greatest players to play for this club in recent years.

"It's a special award for me because it comes from the Spurs fans who I love and who watch me every week.

"They've been good to me ever since I joined and I cherish that joint rapport. If they think I've had a good season then that's good enough for me and I thank them all.

"Everything we do we do for the supporters and I rate our followers as the best in the land.

"As players we all take pleasure from seeing them happy and we're looking forward to going into Europe with them next season. We always know that wherever we play, our supporters will be there with us. They're a crucial part of our team."

Meanwhile, we've taken a quick look at those same names and what a team any 11 from the line-up would make! How's this for starters...

Erik Thorstvedt, Stephen Carr, Michael Dawson, Gary Mabbutt, Paul Allen, Darren Anderton, Paul Gascoigne, David Ginola, Chris Waddle, Gary Lineker, Jurgen Klinsmann.

And Daws is in there on merit.
