Michael Dawson clocked up the 400th appearance of his career in style at Old Trafford – and the stark contrast between that and his most recent milestone wasn't lost on the skipper.
Michael defended magnificently alongside Vlad Chiriches and the rest of the defence as United piled on the pressure late on to make sure game number 400 - 91 for Forest, 309 for us - ended with a deserved 2-1 victory at the home of the reigning Premier League champions.
The last time Daws had a milestone to celebrate was his 300th appearance for Spurs and a date he said he’ll never forget, but for all the wrong reasons – our last trip to Manchester and City at the Etihad.
Spurs fans won’t need reminding what happened that day, so it’s worth concentrating on our second-successive victory at the Theatre of Dreams as goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen made sure the first day of 2014 was one to remember.
“It’s certainly a better feeling than my 300th appearance for the club!” smiled Michael afterwards. “That was City away, a dreadful day.
“That was a real low but this was the complete opposite, a great day, great performance and great result.
“I thought we were fantastic from back to front.
“We had to show some character at 2-1, United had the momentum but we dug deep and showed the spirit we have in the dressing room.
“The club had to wait 23 years to win at Old Trafford and now we’ve won two in two! We’ll dust ourselves down now look forward to Arsenal.”
