Michael making his mark

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Michael Dawson has made quite an impression on his Head Coach and skipper in just over a fortnight of Premiership action.

The England Under-21 international has been outstanding in his first four games for us after finally recovering from the shin injury that ruled him out for 10 weeks.

Michael, 22, joined us from Nottingham Forest in January but had to wait until the game at Liverpool on April 16 to make his debut.

He's since played West Brom, Arsenal and Villa and it appears he's making up for lost time.

"Michael's been brilliant," said captain Ledley King, his central defensive partner. "He was thrown in at the deep end against Liverpool for his debut and had an outstanding game.

"He's moved on from there. He seems to be improving every game and I've enjoyed playing with him.

Ledley is well-placed to talk about Michael's strengths. "He's a strong lad and he's really dominant in the air. He's good with the ball at his feet as well. I've been really impressed with him.

"Before he came here a lot of people said he was a leader and you can see that. He's come into the team and he's not scared or shy to tell people what they should be doing.

"He's still young, will only get better and at the moment he looks like a great buy."

Head Coach Martin Jol added: "I said to him after Arsenal 'have you ever played in a game like that' and he said 'no'. That meant he gained a lot of experience out of that game because Reyes was going wide, Pires was dropping off and they do it all in a split-second and you have to make quick decisions.

"It's probably not a good thing to play someone who has been out for so long three times so quickly but I had every confidence in him.

"He played the two biggest away games you can imagine against Liverpool and Arsenal and he did well. He said it was difficult, I saw that but he played decent games and that means he's made another step."
