Mauricio welcomes 'good news' with Lamela in contention for Leicester

Mon 27 November 2017, 12:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino believes Erik Lamela's return will be a big help to the team after confirming the Argentine international is in contention for a place in the squad at Leicester City.

Attacking midfielder Erik hasn't featured for the first team since an EFL Cup tie at Liverpool on October 25 last year.

After surgery to repair hip problems, he played an hour for our Development Squad in a Premier League 2 clash with Chelsea last week and now Mauricio says he's ready for a return to first team duties as we head to the King Power Stadium for a midweek Premier League outing on Tuesday night.

"Good news - Erik has stepped up and is in contention for tomorrow," Mauricio told Spurs TV after training today (Monday).

"Always in a very busy schedule you need everyone fit to help the team and that is very good news for the team."

It comes as a further boost to Erik after he became a father over the weekend and Mauricio continued: "Of course, after more than one year, it's so important to start to feel again the emotion to play and compete.

"It's so important and of course I'm so happy because he is going to help the team a lot."
