Mauricio thrilled to see Hugo and Michel commit to the club

Mauricio Pochettino admitted he was bursting with pride after watching Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm sign new contracts this week – and then hearing them speak so glowingly about the club on Spurs TV.
Number one goalkeeper and captain Hugo put pen to paper on a new deal until 2022, with fellow stopper Michel swiftly following suit in committing his own future to the cause.
Both custodians spoke afterwards about how they feel comfort and a sense of belief in the way the club is heading – something Mauricio was delighted to hear.
“I am very pleased that Hugo and Michel are showing their commitment with the club and I think that speaks very well about us and our project,” said the manager.
“To hear them makes us very proud about our project, our team, our club and our fans. We are very happy and we hope that not only them but all the players want to be involved for a long time with us.”
Hugo and Michel are both seen as key figures in the dressing room, the Frenchman as club skipper and the Dutch international as the oldest member of the squad. Both have been known to help nurture some of our younger talent and Mauricio confirmed that their contributions are valued off the field as well as on it.
“Hugo is a top man, very professional and he’s a natural leader,” he continued. “All the players and all the people respect him. He provides very positive leadership and that is a very good thing for us and for the club.
“Michel is the same – he’s a top man, a top keeper, he’s always very positive and he’s very professional too.
“The connection is fantastic between them and Pau Lopez, they are working very hard with Toni Jimenez our goalkeeping coach and I think that’s fantastic. It’s for that reason we are delighted and very pleased that they’ve shown their commitment with the club.”
