Mauricio: "The players deserve all the credit"

16 May 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino directed the focus squarely on the players after achieving our best league finish since 1963.

Sunday's win against Manchester United in a memorable, emotional finale at White Hart Lane on Sunday secured second place in the Premier League with matches at Leicester City and Hull City remaining.

The team will create a number of best marks in the Premier League this season but for now, the players can celebrate finishing second for the first time since the 1962-63 season, completing the league campaign unbeaten at home for only the fourth time in our history and matching the Club record 14 straight home league wins set in 1967.

"The team made a big effort for the whole season and they deserve full credit," said Mauricio. "It's a little unlucky we didn't win a trophy but we are so close.

"The players are proud of this season, we worked so hard and the way we finished (10 wins in the last 11 before Leicester and Hull) is a good platform to start next season. It's an exciting moment for the Club and we need to keep going."

Reflecting on some never-to-be-forgotten scenes at the Lane's finale, Mauricio added: “I think I’m a very lucky guy, because to share the history of this Club, in that special moment, is so lucky and I am so happy.

"I want to congratulate everyone, and to say ‘thank-you’ again to all the players, the fans, the staff, my staff, because all together we worked so hard to try to achieve all that we've achieved this season.”
