Mauricio on Spurs TV - award 'for everyone'

16 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino was keen to recognise the hard work of the players and passionate support of our fanbase after being named Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for September.

Consecutive 1-0 victories against Sunderland and Crystal Palace were followed up with a memorable 4-1 home win over league leaders Manchester City on September 26 as we took maximum points on the domestic scene last month.

Those performances led to Mauricio being selected as the recipient of the prestigious Manager of the Month award but, as he claimed the trophy, he wanted to highlight the contributions of the players, fans and staff alike to our good run of form in recent weeks.

“I’m very happy, but this award is to recognise the players, the coaching staff, the people, the fans….. the club. I think it’s an award that recognises all our jobs, not only the manager," he said.

“Football is a collective sport and the squad works very hard. I think this is our key - working hard. After that we have the potential and some unbelievable players that can deliver the job. We always believe in our way and I think this is the most important thing.

“It was a fantastic month last month - three big games, three good victories against Sunderland, Palace and Manchester City.

"Now we have a responsibility to follow in the same way, work hard and try to get more positive results.”

The emotions of Mauricio and his coaching team of Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino and Toni Jimenez are often visible on the touchline during our games - none more so than in the win over City.

Clearly delighted by each goal as it went in, Mauricio underlined the importance of a feeling of togetherness right around the club as we strive for success.

“The passion in football is very important,” he added. “I’m happy to be here at a massive club like Tottenham with unbelievable fans. They are very important for us and we express our feelings also - we are very emotional people and that’s an important thing in football.

“We are one club and our objectives and targets are the same. I believe it is very important to have a clear idea of what we want in the future for the club and so we work in this way.”
