Mauricio hails hard-working Winks

Mauricio Pochettino describes Harry Winks as a ‘perfect midfielder’.
The 21-year-old capped his return to full fitness and our starting line-up with a first call into the England senior squad this week. He was on the bench for Thursday night’s 1-0 win over Slovenia at Wembley and is set to travel to Lithuania for the Three Lions’ final World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
The Academy graduate, who joins Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier in the national squad, was absolutely flying last season with 33 appearances in all competitions when disaster struck at Burnley on April 1 and an ankle injury that ended his season early.
He worked through the summer to be ready for pre-season, returned to action on our tour of the USA and came off the bench in our early matches before starting for the first time since April in our Carabao Cup win against Barnsley on September 19. He followed up with a start at APOEL in the Champions League and was back in the first XI in the Premier League again at Huddersfield last Saturday.
“He’s working so hard after his injury last season and he’s starting to recover his best feelings,” said Mauricio before Harry’s England call. “He’s starting to play at his best.
“For me, he’s a perfect midfielder. He can play box-to-box or as a holding midfielder and has the quality to understand the demands of the game. He’s so clever.
“He’s completely different to other midfielders like Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko.
“We’re so happy he starts to feel better now because he provides the team with qualities we don’t have.”
