Mauricio expects tough Terriers test

29 September 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino expects to face an ‘athletic and physical’ Huddersfield team when we return to Premier League action at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday (12.30pm).

The Terriers made a dream return to the top flight with wins against Crystal Palace and Newcastle in their opening two matches and have only lost one of their six so far, although they are without a win in four.

“Huddersfield is a tough team, good players, well-organised and so strong,” said Mauricio. “In the games we’ve watched they have always been difficult to beat and don’t concede too many goals. They are so athletic and physical.

“We need to be ready to fight, to challenge in every action and then try to create chances, to be better and try to win.

“It’s tough because our opponents have had all week to prepare (while we travelled to Cyprus in the Champions League) but that’s no excuse, we want to compete in every competition and if we want to be a strong team we need to deal with that.”

The team arrived back in the early hours of Wednesday morning having toppled APOEL 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night and Mauricio explained how the coaching team would work for the rest of the week with an early kick-off on Saturday.

“It’s important to work hard in pre-season to have the time now to prioritise recovery and give time to the players to be ready again,” he said.

“You can prepare for the game in different ways with videos and clips, so it’s not only training on the pitch, and providing a good balance is so important at this time when we’re so busy.

“On Friday, we’ll have some meetings to prepare and work on tactical things we want to do in the game. That’s normal. Then we travel to Huddersfield.

“Be sure, we’ll arrive in a good condition to play and compete against Huddersfield.”
