Matt's big step

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Matthew Etherington believes he's crossed an important bridge in what has been a fantastic last 10 days for him.

Back with confidence from a loan spell at Bradford, Matty made his first start of the season and scored his first Spurs goal against Bolton in the FA Cup last week, made his first Premiership start this term and impressed again against Leicester on Saturday and, on Tuesday, won his first England U21 cap.

Matty explained: "I think I've put in the manager's mind that I'm good enough to play in his side and that was an important thing for me.

"If that means coming off the bench then that's something I'll accept. I know I have to bide my time.

"Things are definitely moving along now. If I can keep my place in the squad, it will be tough because they are some great, great players here, but if I can do that everything will fall into place."

Slovenia was the scene of Matty's England U21 debut. He caused all sorts of problems for the home side in a one-way second half in England's 1-0 win - and was left counting the bruises!

"They were tough, big players and just wanted to kick you about," he said. "I've a few cuts and bruises from it.

"They put 11 men behind the ball and it was up to us to break them down. We only scored one in the end, should have been five or six, but it was a good experience.

"I was pleased with how it went and it was another feather in my cap, definitely."

So, after an up and down two years at the club, things seem to have fallen into place in the space of two weeks.

"That's the way it goes sometimes," he added. "You just need a bit of luck and it all comes together. That's happening to me at the moment and I've just to keep it going."
