Matt on bumper gate

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Matthew Etherington says he was not surprised by the bumper turn-out for the reserve fixture as an amazing 8,658 witnessed Southampton secure a fortunate 1-0 at St Mary's.

Saints only play four second string games at their main ground - against the London big boys of us, Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal - and the local public certainly responded and provided an atmosphere comparible with some Saturday games.

"They always have a good crowd down here for reserve games to be fair," said Matt, who played at the Dell last season when a few thousand, including Glenn and John Gorman, saw their team run out 7-0 winners.

"When we've played at the Dell before they've always had good turn-outs. We were expecting a good crowd, but eight and a half thousand was good."

Matt is in no doubt as to where the game was lost on Monday evening - a sluggish spell after the break during which substitute Chris Baird blasted home the winner.

"We started off the second half sloppy in the first 15 minutes, we let them get on top of us. They scored the goal and then we were chasing the game from then on.

"I thought in the last half an hour we got to grips with the game again and we should have got an equaliser before the end."
