Matt misses England date
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Matt Etherington has agreed to put his temporary club before country and shelved his international ambitions to play for Bradford City.
The on-loan winger is prepared to miss England's under-20 friendly against Portugal at Southampton on Wednesday so he can be available for City's rearranged trip to Preston the night before.
Boss Jim Jefferies contacted England coach Martin Hunter to withdraw Matt from his team for St Mary's.
Jefferies said: "I got the permission of Tottenham to do that and Matt is quite happy as long as it doesn't harm his chances for future squads.
"Matt's arrival here has coincided with us going four games undefeated. He has upped the tempo on the left-hand side and gives us an outlet to get behind defences.
"He's certainly got the pace and directness that allows us to get up there quickly. Matt is still young and has a lot to work on yet. But he feels he can do better which is a good sign."
Jefferies confirms, however, that Spurs have no intention of letting Matty leave on a permanent basis.
"I spoke to John Gorman who compares it with the Danny Murphy situation. He went to Liverpool and needed time to break in so they put him out to Crewe for a few games - now he's playing for England.
"Tottenham don't want to lose Matt Etherington and you can see why. We're bringing him on because it's better to play at this level than to play reserve team football so both clubs are getting the benefit."
Matt added: "Things are going well for me and I've been fairly happy with the way I've been playing. I think there's much more to come."
