EXCLUSIVE COLUMN - WOLVES PROGRAMME - Saturday, January 14
You always have to be prepared for a difficult encounter when you face Everton but we played ever so well on Wednesday and it was a great win.
The first goal was important to us and I felt we got on top after that and dominated the game in the end. It was good to see Aaron Lennon back on the scoresheet, while Benoit Assou-Ekotto was more than deserving of a goal and it was an absolutely superb strike. He couldn’t have hit that better.
We didn’t give Everton any real opportunities, Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul were solid at the centre of defence and I was especially pleased with Jake Livermore in front of them. He is getting better and better and always shows a great attitude as well as being a fantastic lad too.
It was an excellent performance all round. We are always a threat, the way we shift the ball about the football pitch, the crispness of the passing, the movement off the ball; this is what the game is about. I just really enjoy watching us play.
We have put ourselves in a fantastic position in the table, the players have been great and we have got to keep believing and maintain it now.
There is a long way to go in this Premier League season. It is wide open at the top still and anything could happen, I don’t think you can write off any of the top six yet.
We are up there in the Champions League mix, and we are looking to secure one of those places, but beyond that who knows.
We are not far off the leaders Manchester City and we have given ourselves a chance. I’ve said all along that it will be extremely difficult to finish above them but nothing is impossible so we have to give it a go and we will continue to do that.
We cannot get carried away though. We must only concern ourselves with the next game on the fixture list this afternoon as we welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to White Hart Lane.
Mick McCarthy has assembled a good side at Molineux and he always gets the best out of his teams.
Wolves will come here today and be difficult opposition to beat just like the likes of Sunderland, West Brom and Everton in recent home games.
We have got to be at our best if we are going to get the three points today but we are a top team with quality players and I am sure it will be another exciting game.
Have a good afternoon.
