Match report:<br> Spurs 5, Everton 2
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Dean Marney made a stunning full home debut as we produced arguably our best performance of the season to topple Everton on New Year's Day.
The 20-year-old midfielder came in for the injured Michael Brown and responded with two goals, two assists and an all-action display for 90 minutes.
His second and our fifth goal summed up the afternoon at the Lane as he ran from halfway before curling home from 30 yards. It was his match and one he'll never forget.
It was a game of firsts with Marney, Pedro Mendes and Reto Ziegler all grabbing their first goals for us in the Barclays Premiership.
The strikers were also represented by Robbie Keane while Fredi Kanoute tried everything to add his name to the scoresheet without success.
Recently on loan at Gillingham, Marney has impressed in the reserves since his return and slotted comfortably into a right-sided role.
Keane partnered Kanoute up front with Jermain Defoe out with a knee problem.
The first half started quietly start but as we thought of how tough it would be to break down Everton, we duly did it twice in 10 minutes.
In the first opening at either end, Mendes chipped the ball forward to Keane who won a crucial flick on to allow Marney to nip between Yobo and Wright and lob home his first senior goal.
Everton came within inches of equalising when Hibbert drove the ball across goal, Naybet diverted the ball away from Kilbane and just inches wide of the far post.
Minutes later and with 26 on the clock it was 2-0 with a goal of simplicity, finished superbly by Ziegler. Edman's long throw was flicked on by Kanoute and Ziegler was first to react, chesting down and volleying into the corner.
It could have been 3-0 on the half-hour as Mendes aimed a long ball forward for Keane, Weir should have cleaned up but hesitated allowing Keane to lob over the back-tracking Wright but onto the crossbar.
Everton looked more dangerous as they threw more bodies forward, Carsley went close with a brave header and then a goal back as Bent won two big headers, the second into the path of Cahill who volleyed home from 16 yards.
The next goal was always going to be vital and Mendes delivered in style. Marney was again involved, crossing low for Kanoute who controlled and laid the ball back to Mendes who switched to his right foot before blasting home from 18 yards.
We didn't have to wait long for number four with Marney this time crossing low and handing goal on a plate to Keane, who tapped home from a couple of yards.
An amazing spell followed as Ziegler and Kanoute forced saves out of Wright, Ledley King's effort was blocked by Weir and then headed Ziegler's corner wide from close range. It was superb stuff.
A fifth goal had to come and it was the pick of the bunch - Marney receiving the ball on halfway from Carrick, striding forward and curling precisely into the top corner from 30 yards.
Everton managed a consolation via McFadden as the rain came down - but nothing would dampen this New Year's Day at the Lane.
