Match Report - Tottenham Hotspur Under 19 v Chelsea U19 - 14 Sep 2002
U18 Academy South
Goals from Jamie Slabber and Dean Marney saw our under-19 side to a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Myddelton House on Saturday.
Slabber netted after 25 minutes, with Marney sealing victory with 20 minutes remaining.
"We were a little bit shakey to begin with," reported coach Pat Holland. "Then we had a couple of movements where we could have scored.
"We got an excellent goal with good third man movement, which was finished off by Jamie Slabber.
"We created a few more chances before the break and at half-time I said to them 'nothing sloppy in the first ten minutes'. Nobody listens to their coach and we gave them two great opportunities inside that time in which they should have scored.
"Fortunately they didn't, we got our second goal, and from then on we were well in charge. It was a question of how many we were going to score."
Pat reserved a special mention for the striking partnership of Slabber and Lee Barnard (pictured left).
"Our play from the front two was very pleasing. We got a lot of third man movement, got it into the front boys and kept it ever so well. Both had good games.
"There was a good balance to it, a lot of strength. The boy Barnard has got a wonderful attitude, never lets anyone settle and he kept the ball very well.
"I was really pleased with it and it was one of our better performances."
