Match Report - Tottenham Hotspur U17 v Aston Villa U17 - 04 Oct 2003

U17 Academy South

FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE

Spurs U17s 0-6 Aston Villa

Coach Jimmy Neighbour was understandably disappointed after Saturday's defeat.

Jimmy explained: "It was a poor performance and disappinting for everyone involved.

"We matched them for 15 minutes and we were okay but two poor defensive mistakes and we were 2-0 down.

"The referee then awarded a penalty that wasn't and we conceded a fourth goal that was just as sloppy. Suddenly we're 4-0 down and although we didn't perhaps deserve to be 4-0 down, we did defend poorly.

"There is a lot of work to be done with this group in their defensive play, not just defenders but all over the field.

"We're not a bad team on the ball but we've got to improve without it and that's something we've got to work on and we'll work on it with them.

"At the end of the day though, they can't expect to make the mistakes they've made, give goals away like that and still win games. I know it's not just about that but to lose 6-0 isn't on at this stage."

Spurs U17s: Forecast, Riley, Wright (Harvey, 65), Lee, Welch, Daniels, Mascarenhas, Maghoma, Thyer (Lewis, 55), Barcham (Dawkins, 64), Stevens. Unused subs: Button, Kyriacou.
