Match Report - Portsmouth Reserves v Tottenham reserves - 19 Aug 2003

FA Premier Reserve League South

Dean Richards and Ledley King completed 90 minutes as our reserves drew 0-0 against Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

The pair were untroubled as part of a central defensive three alongside Chris Perry in the FA Premier Reserve League stalemate at Havant & Waterlooville FC.

It was Dean's first action of the season having missed all of pre-season with a troublesome Achilles.

Meanwhile, Ledley had been out since picking up an ankle knock in our first pre-season friendly against Stevenage Borough over a month ago.

Chances were of an absolute premium at both ends, with neither side having what could be described as a gilt-edged opportunity on goal.

Apart from one save on four minutes from Pompey new boy Sebastian Schemmel, Neil Sullivan enjoyed a quiet evening and the same could be said for the home side's Japanese international keeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi.

The first shooting chance of any note came on 25 minutes when Vincent Pericard had sight of goal, but a towering block by the advancing Richards put paid to any potential danger.

Despite the lack of goalmouth action it was a fiercely competitive encounter, mostly fought in the midfield area. Johnnie Jackson and Lee Barnard, twice, had speculative efforts on goal in rare forward sorties.

It was more of the same in the second period, which was livlier from a Spurs point of view, with Barnard coming closest to breaking the deadlock with a twisting header from a Jackson corner.

Spurs: Sullivan, Marney, McKie (Henry 67), Perry, Richards, King, Hughes, Barnett, Slabber (Malcolm 70), Barnard, Jackson. Subs not used: Burch, O'Donoghue, Black.

Portsmouth: Kawaguchi, Schemmel, Vincent, Hughes, Primus, Silk, Cooper Clark (68), Pettefer, Pericard, Burton, Harper.
