Match minutes key - Michel
12 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Saturday’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Southend United was a great opportunity to put some of the skills the players have been working on in training into practice in a match situation, according to Michel Vorm.
The Dutch goalkeeper played the first 45 minutes at Hotspur Way as we saw off the League One side 4-0 in our first pre-season run-out, with Josh Onomah, Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb and Nathan Oduwa on the scoresheet.
Reflecting on what was a useful exercise, Michel emphasised how important it is for as many players as possible to get game time under their belts at this early stage of the summer.
“We’ve had a good week of training and it’s great to end it with a match,” said the 31-year-old.
“I think the most important bit was that everybody here got a good feeling of playing 45 minutes or more.
“It’s very important for the new players to get involved on the pitch because it’s obviously new for them and everybody needs to get used to each other, and obviously the young boys have worked hard and got their minutes today as well, so that’s great.
“We scored some good goals in the game, we tried to press high and play well in possession and I think we did that. There were some very positive things to take away from the match.”
