Massive win - Gareth
Gareth Bale underlined the importance of Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Swansea.
“We knew it was going to be difficult and it was a massive win for us,” said Gareth, who hammered home a fantastic strike from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 in the first half.
Determined to bounce back after defeats against Liverpool and Fulham in the Premier League, the lads impressed to take control of the game at the Liberty Stadium in the first half.
Gareth set-up Jan Vertonghen’s opener and roles were reversed for the second goal as Jan found Gareth on the edge of the box, and he found the top corner.
Swansea came back into it in the second half, pulled a goal back through Michu and put us under pressure without really testing Brad Friedel again.
It was our ninth away win in the Premier League as we moved back into third.
“We’d had a couple defeats in the Premier League and we just wanted to stop that and get our season back on track,” said Gareth. “We did that and I thought we’d thoroughly deserved the win.
“We showed both sides of our game, not just attacking but defending as well. As I said, it was a great result and that pushes us right back up the table.”
As for his combination with Jan, Gareth added: “We scored a goal each and assisted each other but the most important thing was to get the three points. Jan is playing very well and he’s had a great first season for us.”
