Massive team performance - Gareth

Gareth Bale underlined the importance of Monday night’s thrilling 3-2 victory at West Ham.

The Welsh flier’s spectacular winner in the last minute at Upton Park made it three wins on the trot in the Premier League, 11 matches unbeaten and stretched our run to one defeat in 15 since November.

The three points also lifted us over Chelsea into third place – a huge motivation for the lads, as Gareth later revealed.

“It was a massive performance from the lads,” he said. “We put 100 per cent in, we knew we had to win to move into that third spot and give us all a lift. It was great to get the three points.

“We spoke before the game and we were all determined to get that third spot when it was available – it’s not often that it is!

“We showed our character, team spirit and determination and that sums us up as a team this season.

“Everyone put in a performance, the lads who came off the bench put in a shift and it was a great team performance.”

Gareth wheels away after hitting the winner

Gareth opened the scoring but West Ham hit back for a 2-1 lead by the hour mark as Jussi Jaaskelainen continued to make save after save.

Gylfi Sigurdsson broke his duck in the Premier League to equalise and after another couple of Jaaskelainen saves, Gareth provided another goal to remember from 30 yards.

“I was delighted to score the winner but the whole team deserves the credit,” he added. “We worked hard until the last minute. It was a great performance.”
