Mason determined to deliver
06 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan Mason goes back to the start on Sunday.
The midfielder made his Premier League debut in the cauldron of the North London Derby in September last year.
It was make or break in the heat of battle and Ryan came through with flying colours in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
Ryan has been a regular in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ever since and racked up 37 appearances in all competitions last season.
Now he’s ready to go back to N5 - and he remembers how he felt in the tunnel that day.
“It was a mixture of emotions and feelings,” he said. “It was the realisation that I was where I wanted to be and all the hard work that I’d put in had started to pay off.
“The gaffer gave me a chance and there is no bigger game than Arsenal away. To be given that chance was great for me and I wanted to repay the faith and put in a performance that warranted it.
“On top of that, every time you are on the pitch against Arsenal you want to win not just for yourself but for the fans and the football club. It’s a huge game.”
Flashback - Ryan speaks to Spurs TV after his debut at the Emirates last season
Ryan describes this Sunday’s clash in the same terms as we take our unbeaten run of 10 matches in the Premier League to second-placed Arsenal, who have won five on the trot.
“It’s a game between two in-form teams in the Premier League,” he added. “We’ve been playing really well and so have they. It’s exciting.
“It’s going to be a great match. I’m sure it’s going to be a quick-tempo game and hopefully we’ll get the better of them.
“We can’t put too much pressure on it because at the end of the day it’s just three points but for the fans and the club we’d love to put one over them.
“As a fan I know what it means to win against Arsenal, to get the bragging rights and hopefully we can deliver.”
